Alstom to build 728 MW gas-fired power plant in Iraq

French engineering group Alstom has secured a contract worth about €400m to construct a 728 MW gas-fired power plant in Iraq.

Energy Business Review reports that the Al Mansuriya gas-fired plant in the Diyala Governorate, northeast of Baghdad, will include four units, based on Alstom’s GT13E2 gas turbine.

Alstom said it will manufacture the equipment at its factories in France, Switzerland and Germany.

The first unit of the power plant is scheduled to commence operation in early 2013.

In July 2010, Alstom signed a memorandum of understanding with the Iraqi government for the development and modernisation of the country’s electricity infrastructure.
