Alstom has partnered with Arabian Bemco Contracting Company in a joint venture to build a manufacturing unit for power generation equipment in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The initial investment in the plant will amount to $53.3m and is part of the French firm’s strategy of localisation within the Kingdom.
The first phase will see the facility manufacture power generation components, primarily HRSGs which are used in combined cycle and cogeneration applications to increase thermal cycle efficiency and minimise fuel consumption. In the second phase, the partners envision expanding the scope of the factory to other power generation equipment.

Alstom is a world leader in the engineering and supply of HRSGs for all gas turbine types, whilst Arabian Bemco is an experienced turnkey contractor and local manufacturer within Saudi Arabia.

To be located in King Abdullah Economic City, north of Jeddah, the factory will train and employ hundreds of Saudi nationals from the start.

 Philippe Cochet
, the president of Alstom Thermal Power told Trade Arabia News that following the technology transfer, the JV will be the exclusive licensee of Alstom HRSG technology in Saudi Arabia.

He added that the demand for gas-fired power plants is on the rise in the Middle East and Saudi is also moving towards gas-fired power generation.
