Africa’s largest hydro project commences on the Blue Nile

Alstom (Euronext:à‚ ALO) has signed a deal with Metals & Engineering Corporation of Ethiopia to install a 375 MW turbine at the Grand Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile.

à‚  The scope of the $328m contract also includes the supply of eight generators and monitoring of electromechanical equipment installations at the plant.

à‚  The Grand Renaissance power plant, once fully completed, will be the largest hydropower facility on the African continent with an estimated capacity of 6,000 MW, according to Energy Business Review.
