Doosan Heavy Industries has signed up to the construction of a major coal-fired power plant in Vietnam.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is to build the Nghi Son II coal-fired power plant alongside Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Marubeni in a deal amounting to approximately $1.6bn (1.8 trillion won).
The facility in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam will contain a power generation capacity of 1330 MW and is scheduled to be completed in July 2019.

Doosan will take charge of design and equipment supply as well as installation and test operations.

The latest win for Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction follows a $1.5bn contract for the Bintan Coal-fired Power Plant, won late last year.

Coal power is becoming increasingly prominent as Vietnam continues expanding its overall power generation capacity.
