CambodIan Energy II Co. Ltd. has awarded a contract for an owner’s engineer services assignment for CEL II, a 150 MW coal-fired power plant project in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

Pöyry  was awarded the contract (value undisclosed) and the plant will be built adjacent to the existing CEL I 100 MW coal-fired power plant.

Pöyry’s assignment includes assistance in project management, design review, site supervision services, quality assurance and quality control and commissioning services. The overall schedule for Pöyry’s services is about three years.

World Coal reports that this is a continuation of Pöyry’s earlier assignment in the same project where Pöyry has been involved in the project as Owner’s Engineer during the development phase, providing technical advisory services to the project developer.

“The new CEL II plant will be the most efficient steam power plant in Cambodia once completed,” said Petteri Härkki, Regional Director of Pöyry. The plant will provide cost-competitive electricity to people in Cambodia, which is experiencing rapid power demand growth with household electrification ratio expected to continue increasing from the current 60 per cent level”.
