China to be world leader in nuclear power generation by 2020

Despite coal remaining its dominant fuel source, China is set to become the world leader in nuclear power generation by the end of the decade.

China’s nuclear progress has been quicker than anticipated as originally it was believed the Chinese would be producing around 100 GW by the early 2020s.

Rio Tinto Energy general manager (markets and Industry analysis) Stephen Wilson said the country will eclipse such a projection.

“Their vision is to produce 400 GW of nuclear power by 2050. That’s been publicly stated by Chinese officials,” Wilson was quoted as saying by Australian Associated Press (AAP). à‚ “That’s more than the whole world has got today.”
