Brazil’s Amazonas Energia to award turnkey thermal project

Amazonas Energia, the distribution arm of Brazil’s federal power holding Eletrobras, plans to invest around $500m in the turnkey delivery of the Maua 3 thermoelectric power plant (TPP), according to local news reports.

The TPP, which is set to start operations in the summer of 2014, is planned to have a capacity of between 400 MW and 650 MW, and to supply power to Manaus, the capital of northwestern Amazonas state.

Amazonas Energia has been in talks with several companies for close to two months now, Canal Energia reports.

The plant will be located near the existing Maua TPP and connected to the grid through the Maua 3 substation, ADPnews Latin America said.
