MPX of Brazil confirms that it has synchronized the third turbine at its Parnaíba I thermoelectric plant to the national grid.

The power company said in a statement that the 169 MW turbine had been successfully operating in test mode since last Friday (22 March)

According to BNamericas, the Parnaíba project’s final installed capacity will be 676 MW, when the fourth turbine comes on line later this year.

The facility will provide an average of 225 MW based on contracts secured during the A-5 auction held in2008, confirms MPX.

MPX owns 70 per cent of Parnaíba I, with the remaining held by Petra Energia.

Parnaíba I is part of the bigger 3.72 GW Parnaíba thermoelectric complex, located in Maranhao state in the northeast.
