Power Construction Corporation of China has signed a $2.4bn deal with India’s Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) to build the second phase of a coal fired power project in Tamil Nadu, in the south of the subcontinent.

Energy Business Review reports that the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract includes the addition of four 660 MW generators for a total capacity of 2640 MW.

IL&FS plans to sell the power generated from the plant to state-run distribution companies on a long-term basis and also in the open market.
