$1.5 billion partnership to develop waste energy recycling projects

More than two thirds of US greenhouse gases are generated by the production of power and heat, says RED, while industrial production and electricity generation plants waste vast amounts of energy that could be recycled into clean power.

According to studies done for the US Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy, recycling presently wasted energy could generate nearly 200 GW of clean power, equivalent to about 20% of US electricity generating capacity. Facilities run on a near-continuous basis, and could cut total US fossil fuel use and greenhouse emissions by 20%, says RED.

Swedish industrial consultant SWECO has been awarded a major contract in connection with the construction of a new biofuel-fired CHP plant to be built north of Helsinki, Finland.
