CDM-funded on-site power plant in South Africa fuelled by waste gases

GE Energy has supplied three of its ecomagination-certified Jenbacher biogas generator sets to the owner of a process effluent-to-biogas plant that will provide electricity to a gas-to-liquids (GTL) refinery in South Africa.

The average size of installed stationary fuel cells is rising, even if the overall numbers are not – according to Kerry Adamson of the UK-based Fuel Cells Today website and speaking at the Grove Fuel Cells Forum in London. The average unit size of 400 kW in 2006 has risen to 650 kW in 2007, said Adamson, and is projected to reach above 1 MW by the end of the year – although the overall number of units sold refused to budge upwards.
