Disagreements between Pakistan and independent power producers have escalated over the past few months. The issue over tariffs has been complicated by allegations of corruption, and now the World Bank has stepped in to try and salvage what it can from the country`s pioneering private investment programme.
The World Bank has launched a rural electrification programme in Africa, selecting Uganda to launch the initiative. The objective of the programme is to boost rural access to electricity from one to ten per cent by the year 2010.
The government of Bangladesh and the World Bank (WB) signed two agreements in the city yesterday for implementation of the rural electrification and renewable energy development project, says a press release.
Last month the World Bank released its report 'Sustainability for all - Global Tracking Framework, which has as one of its objectives the doubling of the share of renewable power generation in the global energy mix by 2030.
