InterGen and Dutch energy company Eneco are proposing to develop a 800 MW gas fired CHP plant in the Rotterdam area. InterGen will have a 60 per cent stake in the project, for which a gas supply agreement has already been signed.

Spanish power conglomerate Grupo Endesa has bought a ten per cent stake in the Amsterdam Power Exchange (APX) which officially opened for trade in June. The move is in line with Endesa`s desire to have a major presence in European markets. It will trade on the exchange alongside utilities such as Belgium`s Electrabel and Dutch utility NV Nuon.

Enron Europe, a subsidiary of Enron Corp., has signed a weather risk management contract with Energie Noord West NV (ENW) of the Netherlands. The contract hedges financial risk against unpredictable weather conditions, to which natural gas and electricity prices are strongly co-related. ENW is a large supplier of both natural gas and electricity in Europe.

PreussenElektra is to pay euro930m ($982m) for an 87 per cent stake in EZH, the fourth largest utility in the Netherlands. However, PreussenElektra will bring EZH better expansion prospects, according to Veba, especially into Belgium and France. The deal is the first overseas majority stake acquisition by PreussenElektra.


The 360 MW Akzo-Delesto 2 combined cycle cogeneration power plant has started baseload operation and is expected to enter commercial service by May. The Delfzijl-based plant, equipped with a GE Stag 109FA system, is the largest cogeneration facility in the country. It provides power and steam to the Akzo Nobel chemical complex and surrounding facilities.
