Ireland's ESB International and ESB National Grid, shortly to become EirGrid, together with their sub-contracting partner Accenture, have been selected as preferred bidder in the US for the SeTrans Regional Transmission Organisation.
The Irish energy market, north and south, mirrors trends and issues familiar across Europe. Monopoly is giving way to competition, coal is losing ground to gas, and potential trading opportunities are multiplying. Add in impressive energy demand growth, not to mention peace in the north, and you have a market heading straight for wrenching and irreversible transformation. But there is a long way to go.
Alstom has signed a contract with ESB National Grid, Ireland's transmission system operator, to provide a full replacement for its existing Energy Management System (EMS). The project represents the first Alstom EMS to be deployed in Europe that will utilise a full Microsoft ® Windows ® 2000 solution.
