UK multi-utility ScottishPower is to create a new holding company in a move which it believes will assist in gaining regulatory approval in the USA for its proposed merger with PacifiCorp. The holding company will ensure separation of the parent company, its existing trading activities and PacifiCorp. In February a political obstacle to the merger was removed when a bill to give the Utah legislature and governor the final say in the deal was dropped.
ScottishPower has announced plans to integrate Manweb, which it acquired in late 1995, with a move toward a regional structure for the electricity distribution business--three regions covering Wales, Merseyside and the remainder of urban and rural territory in England. The Manweb head office in Chester will be closed sometime in 1996 as the company is seeking smaller offices in the area.
ScottishPower, a UK electric utility, reports revenues of (US)$1.16 billion for the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 1994, up 9.6 percent from the same period a year previous. The jump is attributed mainly to increased retail sales, following the purchase of 50 superstores. Revenues in the utility`s electricity business rose 3.4 percent, and operating profit rose 6.2 percent.
