Engie makes Chile renewables debut with 259 MW of wind and solar

Work on a GES solar site in Mexico

French utility Engie is to build its first renewables projects in Chile.

The company is to operate a 162 MW wind farm and a 97 MW solar PV plant and both will be delivered by Spanish EPC firm GES, which has already built wind farms for Engie in Mexico.

The Capricornio solar plant will be located 35 km from the city of Antofagasta, while the wind farm will be 12 km away from the city of Calama, also in the region of Antofagasta. It will be powered by 36 wind turbines of 4.5 MW each and with a hub height of 94 meters.

Already in Chile, GES has built the Conejo photovoltaic plant, one of the eight largest PV projects in the country, plus nine wind farms.
