GE has chosen ExxonMobil as its preferred global lubricants supplier for its Jenbacher Type 2, 3 and 9 gas engines.

The new collaboration was unveiled at POWER-GEN Europe in Cologne today and ExxonMobil said it will “help owner-operators of Jenbacher gas engines enhance equipment performance through the use of its Mobil Pegasus family of premium gas engine oils”.

Tim Hinchman, strategic global alliance director at ExxonMobil, said: “We’ve built a strong working relationship with GE and many end users over the past two decades, but this new collaboration validates the leadership of our Mobil Pegasus family of lubricants and underscores the many benefits they can help deliver to end users.”

“Through this collaboration, we also look forward to working with GE to engineer new lubricant technologies for Jenbacher gas engines that will help their customers further protect their businesses in the years to come.”

GE’s Jenbacher gas engines are commonly used in cogeneration/combined heat and power applications.

Also at POWER-GEN Europe, ExxonMobil launched what it called “a next generation series of gas engine oils to keep up with the latest developments”.

ExxonMobil said the Mobil Pegasus 1100 Series has been inspired by major OEMs to cope with severe engine conditions and significantly extend oil drain intervals.

The natural gas engine series includes Mobil Pegasus 1105 and Mobil Pegasus 1107.

Mobil Pegasus 1107 is designed for high severity natural gas engines, while

Mobil Pegasus 1105 meets the specifications for all piston types. ExxonMobil said both lubricants have a well-balanced formulation helping to extend oil drain intervals by up to 1.5 times when compared to conventional mineral oils.

“Gas engine development is pushing the boundaries of engine design to try and increase gas engine power and reduce costs.” said Inken Reuser, Industrial Marketing Advisor at ExxonMobil. “In turn, this has put higher demands on lubrication.

“Our Mobil Pegasus 1100 Series is designed to keep up with recent gas engine improvements. The next generation oils, inspired by major OEMs, can help extend oil drain intervals by up to 1.5 times while also maintaining engine protection and cleanliness.”
