El Quimbo hydro plant won’t start until 2016

Colombian power generator Emgesa has postponed the decision to lift or temporarily suspend the injunction that would allow operations at the El Quimbo hydroelectric plant to resume until next January.

Emgesa said: “There is no certain date of resumption of the provision of public power generation through that exchange.”

A ruling by Colombia’s Constitutional Court forced the power generator to suspend the operations of the Quimbo plant since 16 December.

El Quimbo produces 5 per cent of the energy consumed in Colombia.
