Burj Power to develop coal power in $700m deal

Port Qasim, near Karachi in Pakistan is to be the site of a $700m group of four coal-fired power plants after UAE-based Burj Power signed a deal to develop it this week.

Burj have signed a formal agreement with a representative of Harbin Electric International – the technical partner for the project – and the first plant, generating 125 MW in capacity will become operational by 2016.

Port Qasim, near Karachi

The first phase of the project alone will cost up to $170m, while the total cost of the project is expected to be as high as $700m.
