‘Waste’ gases to fuel power plant at Brazilian steel mill

The power plant, to be located in Sepetiba, Rio de Janeiro State, will be fuelled by blast furnace gas from a new mill to be built in parallel by the customer, with excess energy exported to the national grid.

The World Alliance for Decentralized Energy (WADE) has applauded calls by G8 leaders, at the end of week-long talks, for international co-operation in increasing energy efficiency. The Alliance picked out a proposal to ‘adopt instruments and measures to significantly increase the share of combined heat and power (CHP) in the generation of electricity.’
