Steam for the two gensets will be provided almost entirely by the combustion of biomass residue from the local pulp mill. The power plant will provide both the pulp mill and an adjacent paper mill with energy. The plant will generate enough electricity for the excess to be supplied to the local grid.
Utility E.ON UK has signed a contract with Alstom to build a major new cogeneration plant at the Isle of Grain in Kent. Unusually, the heat from the plant will be exported to the neighbouring LNG importation terminal operated by National Grid, where it will warm liquid natural gas used to supply the national gas system.
