UK energy services scheme ends with ‘free’ CHP unit

The new ‘x-ergy’ scheme marks a breakthrough in the under 20 kWe micro CHP sector. Customers who sign up to a 10-year x-ergy contract will have no capital outlay, with finance being provided by the Co-operative Bank. At the end of the contract customers keep their CHP system, free of charge.

Pöyry’s Energy business group in Europe has been awarded an engineering and site supervision services assignment by Propower GmbH for services around the construction of a CHP facility to be built at Burg, Germany. The value of the assignment is € 6.2 million.

The project encompasses owner’s engineering services and site supervision for the implementation of the proposed plant to serve the paper mill of Propapier GmbH. Comprising several units using different fuels, the power plant will supply both the existing and a new paper machine.

The core unit of the power supply is a 150 MW refuse-derived fuel circulated fluidized-bed boiler. When completed in 2009, the boiler will be one of the biggest in Germany.
