Largest vertical solar cladding project in Europe

– and the largest solar power system in the UK

Artist’s impression of the Co-operative Insurance Society’s HQ building in Manchester, UK, as it will be once covered in solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. The CIS Tower, the tallest UK office building outside of London, will be host to the largest vertical solar cladding project in Europe and the largest solar power system in the UK.

UK-based PV company solarcentury has provided the design expertise for the project and will supply the technology and advise the project team on the integration of the solar array into the building. To be manufactured by Sharp, the solar modules will cover 3200 m2 of wall and have a peak power generation capacity of 391 kW. The £5.5 million (US$10.3 million) project is being supported by grants from the Britain’s Northwest Regional Development Agency and the Government’s DTI.
