Bergen Engines officially becomes part of Tognum

Today saw the official ownership of Norwegian engine manufacturer Bergen Engines AS transfer to Germany’s Tognum AG.

As part of the 2011 acquisition of Tognum by Engine Holding GmbH, the joint venture of Rolls-Royce plc and Daimler AG, Bergen Engines, a former Rolls-Royce subsidiary, was merged into the Tognum Group.

According to a company statement, Tognum’s engine portfolio will now be bolstered by the addition of medium-speed diesel and gas engines, with power outputs up to 10 MW.

“The integration of Bergen Engines is a further step in Tognum’s growth strategy and in leveraging synergies,” said Dr. Ulrich Dohle, who also formally took over as CEO of Tognum AG and chairman of the Executive Board today.

Tognum supplies high-speed diesel and gas engines carrying the MTU brand name, with power ranges of 75 kW to 10,000 kW and 100 to 2150 kW respectively.

The Bergen engine portfolio comprises medium-speed units for both power generation and marine applications. The diesel engines deliver from 1800 kW to 8000 kW, with the gas engines built for a 1400 kW to 9700 kW output.
