Alstom is to supply turbines which have been specially-adapted to withstand seismic activity to a wind farm on the east coast of Japan.
The French engineering company has signed a contract with Eurus Energy, Japan’s largest wind energy developer.
The deal is for 10 of Alstom’s ECO 74 turbines, with 70 metre towers, to be supplied for the 16.7 MW Kawazu wind farm in Kamo District, Shizuoka.
Each turbine has an output of 1.67 MW and they are expected to be operational in a year’s time.
Japan wants to grow its wind capacity to more than 11 GW by 2020 and over 50 GW by 2050.
