Vestas China seek to showcase wind power in Hubei

Vestas China has received an order for 27 of its V100 turbines from Datang Hubei Renewable Energy, as it seeks to show the potential of distributed wind power.

The turbines, with a total capacity of 48.6 MW, will be installed at the Long Ganhu wind farm in Hubei province, a low-wind site with an average wind speed of 11 mph.

Long Ganhu is situated close to one of the most energy-intensive areas of Hubei province, and Vestas believes it will act as a showcase for distributed wind power.

Jens Tommerup, president of Vestas China, said: “The low-wind sites in China is a new market of huge potential, but a new market also implies new challenges for wind power developers. The contract is of great significance to us – it not only helps us open up a new market, but also firms our steps towards the exploitation of the dominant wind regime in China.”
