Inter RAO, Russia’s electricity exporter, is seeking to acquire power plants in Europe and Turkey to diversify its assets and enter new markets, the company’s head of strategy and investment said.

“We are looking at the best assets in Europe,” Ilnar Mirsiyapov told reporters in Moscow today.

Inter RAO, based in Moscow, is mainly interested in gas fired generation assets and expects to conclude “one or two” deals this year with the company considering borrowing $2.17bn from banks to help fund future acquisitions.
