New Mexico, US-based Lea County Electric Cooperative is ahead of schedule in its plans to restart its gas fired power station. The restart project has a total investment value of about $52 million.

Burns & McDonnell were awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to construct the 46.7-MW gas-fired plant. The plant will have five Wartsila natural gas-fired 20V34SG internal combustion engine generators and will supply peaking power to the grid.

Construction began in April 2011 and was scheduled to be completed by June 2012. However, the plant is now scheduled to begin operations toward the end of January.
