MPX gets green light to expand Parnaiba thermal complex

Brazilian energy company MPX Energia has received a license to increase the installed capacity of the Parnaíba thermal complex by 1859 MW, raising it to 3722 MW.

The complex is jointly owned by MPX (70 per cent) and Petra Energia (30 per cent), Investimentos e Notícias reports.

OGX Maranhao, which together with MPX is a subsidiary of the EBX group, will supply the gas to fuel the plant.

In May of this year, OGX unveiled plans for the exploitation of two natural gas fields in the Parnaiba basin.

The extensioN of the the Parnaíba complex will be built in a natural gas production area, and will be directly connected to existing transmission lines, the report added.
