Punta Colorado wind farm enters operation in Chile

Chile’s Punta Colorada wind farm is now up and running, and according to Barrick Gold Corporation, which was in charge of its construction, represents the country's biggest operating wind facility.

Located in the town of La Higuera in the Coquinbo region of Chile, this $50m wind farm, is made up of 10 wind turbines that generate 20 MW, which is sufficient to supply the energy needs of 10 000 families.

The project has the capacity to expand to 18 turbines and generate 36 MW, which would raise the total investment in the project to $70m, according to press reports.
