China has given the first public glimpse of a 1000 MW pressurised water nuclear power reactor which is said to have incorporated the technological lessons learned from the Fukushima accident.

The ACPR-1000 reactor was developed by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corp and although still in the research and development phase, was revealed to the public at China Hi-Tech Fair in Shenzhen.

According to Chinese news service People’s Daily, the reactor has been fine-tuned to safely shutdown in a natural disaster scenario such as an earthquake.

State-owned China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corp is scheduled to fully complete the R&D of the reactor in 2013.
