Alstom has been awarded a contract worth $150m over several years by American Electric Power (AEP) to upgrade low pressure (LP) steam turbines across its 1300 MW coal fired power plant fleet.

The fleet upgrade framework contract includes seven plants located in Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia.

Alstom will upgrade the LP steam turbines by implementing its rotating and stationary blade design technology. The upgrades will be performed over a period of several years, with the first unit being commissioned in 2013.
