AT&T has announced a partnership with Digi International in order to offer Digi X-Grid smart grid solutions to residential and business electricity consumers.

The partnership will enable AT&T to offer additional applications for electric meters on its wireless network, including thermostats and load control devices.

AT&T has said that its customers will be able to download Digi’s Energy Daytrader for free, which when used in conjunction with a Digi Gateway, allows for remote monitoring of energy usage and control of thermostats.

Chris Hill, vice president of Advanced Mobility Solutions for AT&T Business Solutions, said: “Digi X-Grid solutions, powered by AT&T wireless network, move beyond the smart meter to provide innovative applications and devices for real-time insight into power consumption. These services can help both utilities and their customers use energy more efficiently.”
